Day of Pentecost – The Power of the Holy Spirit
The Lord Jesus promised His disciples that He would send the Holy Spirit after He ascended to God the Father. The Holy Spirit was to empower ALL believers to do the greater works the Lord indicated in John 14:12. The Lord said we would do the same works He has done and even greater works because of the Holy Spirit who was coming to empower us. Acts 1:8.
Could the reason for Christian failure today be attributed to lack of fuel (power)? Pastor Colin Dye (Kensington Temple) years ago indicated that: “the Christian life is impossible without the power of the Holy Spirit”. Take time to examine your walk with Christ. Are you really empowered or do you always run your gas tank on “E” (for empty)? Are you a witness for Him or do you spend all your time on only your personal concerns?
The Lord expects ALL believers (not just the Equippers of Eph. 4:11) to live out the message of the Gospel in word and deed. Too many believers have been lulled by the enemy to believe only the elite could really be involved in reconciling the world to Christ. That is a farce! Every born-again believer has access to the authority of Christ being members of His body. Matt 28:18-20.
Unfortunately many groups of believers have falsely equated Pentecost with the Holy Spirit and they believe only those who speak in unknown tongues have been baptized (immersed) in the Holy Spirit. Firstly, the word “Pentecost” simply means fiftieth. The original reason was to celebrate the latter firstfruits (fifty days from the counting of the Omer). Secondly, according to Acts 1:8, the real sign for being baptized in the Holy Spirit is Power and not tongues.
Having said all this, we want to now work relentlessly to ensure all believers are truly filled with (immersed in) the Holy Spirit with the real evidence of power to snatch people our of darkness into the light of the kingdom of Heaven.
Let us celebrate the day of Pentecost this year by receiving afresh the power of the Holy Spirit. Apostle Paul in Eph. 5:18 tells us to keep being filled by the Spirit. The Apostles of the Lamb (Twelve Apostles) got another strong dose of the Holy Spirit after that day of Pentecost in Acts 4:31.
Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you afresh!
